After the goals are decided on, you need a plan to get there. The plan needs to have two components. One is what your diet is going to be like. The other is how you are going to exercise. You can only lose weight by burning more calories than you take in. And if you want to be healthy, you have to eat properly and not starve yourself.

If you are not going to starve yourself, then you need to be exercising to burn off the calories you are eating. At least when you are getting started, you may want to work with a personal trainer. A trainer can design the right workout program for you to reach your goals.

There are different ways to measure your weight loss. You can make it literally the number of pounds you lose. Or you can measure it by what size clothing you can wear. Or you might measure it by the clothing type you can wear. You may plan on losing sufficient weight for wearing skinny jeans, for example.

The fit of clothing is a good measure, actually. As you work out, you will gain muscle. Since fat is not as heavy as muscle, it is easy to become frustrated if you gain a few pounds in the beginning. It is important to look at more than your scale.

As you are planning out your goals, make some to reach along the way so you get a feeling of accomplishment as they are achieved. This helps to keep you motivated. When you reach one of these smaller goals, treat yourself with something other than food.

Keep thinking about the jeans you are going to be wearing when you reach your end goal. Think of a whole outfit that you can put on. There just might be a brown boot that goes just right with those jeans. Your interim rewards can be the accessories you want to put with the outfit. Boots, a necklace and earrings can all be purchases as you are hitting your other targets.

Just keep going towards your goals without giving up. It may not be easy but you will be there sooner than you think. It will have been well worth all the hard work when you have a picture of yourself in your new clothing that you earned.
