The student should walk out with the minimum of a two year degree, although a four year is preferred. The licensing examination is overseen by the American Dental Association and involves both a written and clinical test. According to the Bureau, the average hygienist makes more than $65,000 a year. It can go as high as $100,00 a year. If one prefers to work for a clinic or hospital on a fulltime basis usually has access to health benefits.
