How Low Self Esteem can affect your Job Prospectus

Once up on a time the best career advice a Dad could give his children was to “Study well and find a secure Job“. A Secure Job was defined as one that is to be found in a very Big Company. Once you get in to such ajob, root yourself to the chair till you retire.

Well obviously, that Dad did not live in today’s world.
The world’s economy changed so drastically in the last one year that no one can say this type of Job is secure or that company is secure to work for. Chaos does not even begin to describe the state of market a few months ago.

In today’s world how is your chance of saving your present job? If you currently do not have a job, what are your chances of success in getting a Job? Any self help coach worth his name will jump at this chance to tell you to think positive and see the best side of the picture. I will ask you to do the opposite. Think for a moment of what would happen if lose your job or if cannot get one right away?

Atleast two reasons come to my mind. No matter what happens we all will survive. You need to realize that and more importantly believe that.
Two, if you can look at the worse and say “I can deal with that” you can deal with almost anything thrown at you. When the tough time comes, courage can either make you stronger or stupid. Which way you go depends on you belief in yourself and your ability to listen to good advice.

Let us have a look at the first important aspect. The courage to face a difficult situation has a deep connection with how well you know yourself and how well you like yourself. If you have a Strong Self Image, it is easy to tread the difficult path. But if you question yourself at each turn of the road, thats bad news for you. Very soon, you will get lost in the maze.

Fear not, you can do something about it now. Look at yourself in the mirror and see if you can smile at yourself. Do you believe in yourself? Do you like yourself? If you answered yes, you are good to go.
Instead, if you keep second guessing your own moves, I think it is time you start steps to improve your Self Esteem.
Without going into the academics of self esteem, let me give you two steps that you can use today to develop a strong self esteem.

1: Avoid toxic self talk: Stop verbally abusing yourself. It will only put you down. Do you have a nagging voice inside you head? if you, turn it down or mute it completely.

2:Develop a friendlier Inner Voice. Erase off the nagging voice inside your head and replace it with a more helpful voice that points out your good work and also helps you identify your mistakes.

This simple exercise will get started on your path. There is a lot more you can do to Develop your Self Esteem and you can find those steps on this site about Self Esteem and Confidence.
